Meet the Weil Players of 2010 - 2011: 

Weil Academy attracts Top National and International Players

This year, Weil Academy has attracted players ranked in the Top 20 ITF, Top 10 in the US in their age divisions, as well as, many #1 International players from countries like Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Turkey, Sweden, Denmark, Egypt, Japan, China, and more, all training together to be the best players they can be. Weil players are serious about improving & winning, and they prove it by consistently claiming major junior titles all over the world. The passion and intensity is contagious generating an energy that sets Weil apart from other International tennis academies!

Shayne Austin,16 (Oak Park, CA)
Top 20 So Cal G16s, Top 25 US G16s
Shayne is in her 5th year at Weil and has established herself as one of the top national players in her age division. Shayne made it to her first So Cal Sectionals Singles Finals in June which proved she is a big tournament player now. Shayne also has solid results in ITF’s in 2009 and looks to improve on her results in 2010. Shayne will play 16s nationals until August and then move to the 18s Division nationally.

Mini BanksMini Banks, 14 (Santa Barbara, CA)

Hi my name is Mini Banks. I am 14 years old and I am from Santa Barbara, California. I am a right-handed player. My goal here at Weil Tennis Academy is to improve my tennis and when I graduate I hope to play college tennis.

Brandon Beardsley,17 (El Cajon, CA) Top 125 So Cal B18s
Brandon is a right handed player whom composes one of the most powerful strokes in the game, the forehand. Brandon is a competitor who is always looking for challenges and he is a person who thrives int he heat of the battle. Brandon's favorite pro player is Cilic. Brandon is inspiring to get into UCSD or the Naval Academy. Brandon also inspires to improve his tennis ranking, academics and will work hard every day.

Alyza Benotto-Wood, 14 (Ojai, CA) Top 25 So Cal G16s
Alyza is a right handed player and her favorite pro player is Serena Williams.  Alzya is working hard and was a doubles finalist in two ITF's last year - El Paso Gr 5 and Canada Gr 4. We are expecting many more great results from Alyza this year.

Tess is right handed and her favorite shot is her forehand. She has an all court game style and her favorite player is Kim Clijsters. Tess' goal is to play college tennis at a top Division 1 School.

Gergana BonchevaGergana Boncheva, 17(Canada) Top 50 Canada G16s
Gergana is right handed and her best stroke is her backhand.
She is a tough competitior who wants to be the best and her favorite player is Justine Henin. Gergana's goal is to get a full scholarship to either Brown or Stanford.
Gail Brodsky, 18, Brooklyn, NY.
(#1 US G18s 2008, WTA Top 500)

Gail is in her 7th year training at Weil and is considered one of the top 5 young American prospects. Gail achieved a career high WTA ranking of 360 in 2009 and looks to improve upon that in 2010. Coming off of an injury in late 2009, Gail will use Weil Academy as her base in 2010 and play a strong schedule to work her way into the top 100 WTA. As a junior, Gail has won almost every major US Singles Title including the Eddie Herr, Easter Bowl and USTA Hard Court Nationals Championships. Gail has represented the USA in World Youth Cup Team Competition 4 times and has played in 2 US Open Main draws. Gail also holds the record for winning the prestigious Ojai Tournament a record 4 times from 2004 – 2007, all in different age divisions finishing with the Women’s Open Title in 2007 as a 15 year old.

Justin BurrusJustin Burrus, 14 (Spring Lake, NJ)
Top 10 MIddle States B14s, Top 175 US B14s

Justin is in his first year at Weil and looks to improve his serve, technique and all around attacking game. Justin is a quiet young man but has the heart of a champion when he competes. Justin is right handed and likes to win points from the baseline, but can move forward when he needs to. His serve will be a big weapon one day. Justin will play B14s.

Bryan ChenBryan Chen, 14 (Guangzhou, China) Top 300 So Cal B14s
Bryan is a left handed player with is best stroke being his forehand. His favorite player is Djokovic and his goal is to go to college. Bryan would like to attend Stanford when he graduates.

Yuki Chiang, 14 (Ojai, CA) 
Top 10 So Cal G16s, Top 15 USTA G14s
Yuki  has trained at Weil for the past 6 years and her results have been terrific. Yuki just capped off her 2009 by winning the Jr. Orange Bowl G14s Singles Championship by defeating the #1 ranked American Brooke Austin in the final. Yuki has trained under Head Coach Takeshi Ozaki at Weil and her development has been steady and strong. In 2009, Yuki also won the So Cal Jr Sectionals G14s Singles Championship adding this to her So Cal Junior Sectionals G12s Singles Title she won in 2006.

Paola Cos

Paola Cos, 17 (El Paso, TX) Top 350 ITF
Paola is the Champion of a Grade 2 ITF in Bolivia. She is a right handed player and her best stroke is her backhand. Paola's  favorite player is Kim Clijsters. Paola's goal is to achieve a scholarship to her dream school - Columbia.

Lucas Da SilveiraLucas Da Silveira, 16 (Sao Paulo, Brazil) Top 60 So Cal B16s

Lucas has improved a great deal since he began last semester. His best stroke is his forehand and his favorite player is Fernando Verdasco. Lucas is a tough competitor that will not give up until the last point. When Lucas leaves Weil he wants to have a high ITF ranking - Top 100 or Top 50.

 Ashley Dai,15 (Ojai, CA)  Top 5 So Cal G16s, Top 5 US G16s
Ashley is right handed and her favorite shot is her forehand inside out. Ashley's favorite player is Li Na of China. As for her style of play, Ashley is an aggressive baseliner that has a pretty decent transition game. Her best results are the 16s 2009 Clay Court Championships and the four gold balls that she has won in doubles and the three Winter Nationals and one Hard Court Championships. Ashely really enjoy all the variety of emotions while playing a match.

Bernie De La Cabada

Bernardo "Bernie" De La Cabada, 13 (Hoixqoilucan, Mexico)
Top 350 So Cal B14s

Bernie is a right handed player and his best stroke is his forehand. Bernie's  favorite player is Rafael Nadal. When Bernie graduates he wants to go to the Illinois university.

Benjamin "Beej" Deacon,17 (Kamloops, BC, Canada)
Beej has been injured this semester but doing his best to stay healthy and get back on the court full time. When Beej leaves Weil he would like to have improved his all around game and be more consistent with everything from practice to matchplay to tournaments. Beej's favorite player is Roger Federer.



Grigor Dimitrov, 19 (Haskovo, Bulgaria)
Top 250 ATP, #1 ITF 2008

Grigor trained at Weil for 2 years and won the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl singles titles both years. Grigor is one of the most promising young players on the ATP Tour and looks to be a top 25 ATP player in the next 2 years. In 2008, Grigor won the Wimbledon and US Open Junior Singles Championships and finished the year ranked #1 in the ITF! Grigor was the first Bulgarian player to ever achieve the #1 junior world ranking. Grigor is now coached by Peter Lundgren and makes his base in Europe.

Paarth DodhiawalaPaarth Dodhiawala, 14 (Mumbai, India) Top 100 So Cal B14s
Parth plays boys 14's and 16's. He started playing tennis in India at the age of 9. He is currently from White Plains, New York and his favorite player is Roger Federer. Parth is right handed and his best stroke is his backhand.

Kevin Du

Kevin Du, 14 (Shanghai, China) Top 200 So Cal B14s
Kevin is a 14 year old right handed player from Shanghai China. His favorite player is Andy Murray. He is determined to improve his baseline game as well as his volleys. He is currently ranked top 200 So. Cal and his goal for the end of this year is to be top 100.

John Dunn

John Dunn, 18 (Bedford, NY) Top 100 So Cal B18s
John a competitive athlete with an all court game style. He is working hard to improve his sectional and national rankings. His goal is to be a competitive Division 1 tennis player at a United States Service Academy or an Ivy League University.

Kei Ezaka

Kei Ezaka, 15 (Nagoya, Japan)  Top 30 So Cal B14s
Kei's current ranking is B14 SoCal Top 20. His favorite player is Nadal. Kei is right handed.and his best stroke is his backhand. Kei is  a counter puncher and a fighter. Kei is still chosing to turn pro or to go to college. He wants to learn about tennis skills, mental thoughness and fittness.

Patrik Fabian

Patrik Fabian, 15 (Kosice ,Slovakia) Top 40 So Cal B18s
Patrik's  ranking is  716 ITF . He is left handed and his favorite pro player is Fernando Verdasco. Patrik's  best stroke is his forehand  and his goal is to be 200ITF . Patrik's  dream after college is to be a pro tennis player and be the best player in Slovakia . Patrik's goal to achieve before he graduates is to be the best player in Weil Tennis Academy .

Darius Frick

Darius Frick, 16 (Cincinnati, Ohio) Top 75 So Cal B16s
My favorite player is Bjorn Borg. I am right handed, and am an all around player. I am ranked top 75 in Southern California in the 16 and under, and want to be ranked top 400 in the nation by the end of my 16's career. My dream college is Illinois, it would be amazing if I was able to go there. I have already improved a great amount since I have come to Weil, and by the end of the year hope to be the best player that I can be.

Kenta Fukuoka

Kenta Fukuoka, 17 (Aichi, Japan) Top 200 So Cal B18s
I love America. My favorite pro player is Andre Agassi and Marat Safin. I am right handed. My best stroke is my forehand. My dream is to become a pro player.

Ian Galli, 16 (Clovis, CA) Top 275 So Cal B16s
I am a right handed player and my best stroke is my forehand. When I graduate from Weil I would like to attend BYU and play college tennis at the highest level possible. After graduating from college I want to work for a sports agency. My favorite player is Andy Roddick.

Sterling Galli, 14 (Clovis, CA) Top 20 So Cal B14s
This is my second year here at Weil. My goals are to be number 1 in So Cal and attend BYU when I graduate. My favorite player is Robert Kendrick.

Luis GastaoLuis Gastao, 17 (Vitoria, Brazil) Top 125 So Cal B18s

Luis is a quick player, has good footwork and is consistent.His favorite professional players are Guga and Federer.His goal as a tennis player is to play in a certain level that provides him a scholarship in a division one college and graduate in a well recognized university in the U.S.He practices hard every day is a hard worker.However, he still desires to work specially in his mental development.He wants to persue and succeed in what is most important for him; academics and tennis.

Samantha KanetaSamantha Kaneta, 18 (Honolulu, HI) Top 100 So Cal G18s
I was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Hawaii. I’ve been at Weil for two and a half years. In the fall I will be attending DePaul University. I’m currently training to improve my tennis game to be ready to play for the Blue Demons in the upcoming NCAA tennis season.

Rio Kitagawa, 16 (Hyogo, Japan)  Top 150 ITF
Rio is a righthanded player with her favorite shot being her backhand down the line. Some of Rio's most recent accomplishments are 2009 Canandian ITF Gr 4 & 5 Singles and Doubles Champion and she was a semi-finalist at the Grasscourt ITF Gr 3 last year also. We expect many more great results from Rio this year.

Mikel KosichMikel Kosich, 18 (Parker, CO) Top 175 So Cal B18s 
I have been at Weil since January 2009. I play an aggressive and hard hitting game style, and am becoming a more tactical player. My biggest weapon is my serve. My goal is to be top 50 in So. Cal. and top 300 Nationally by summer. I want to go to a D1 private college.

Jack LaPlanteJack LaPlante, 13 (Ojai, CA) Top 350 So Cal Boys 14s
Jack is in his 3rd year at Weil and making great strides in his game and going deeper into big tournament draws. Jack is hanging strong in Coach Takeshi's group and is building his mental game to match his big ground game. Jack should have a great fall and move into the Top 50 by Christmas.

Xingyao Li, 18 (Beijing, China) Top 300 So Cal Girls 18s
Xingyao is in her 5th year at Weil and is on her way to developing into a strong college player.  Her favorite pro players are Roger Federer and Li Na. Xingyao is right handed and her wish is to play for the University of Chicago int he fall of 2010.

Rafael Lira

Rafael Lira, 15 (Los Cabos, Mexico) Top 100 So Cal B16s
Rafa is a tough competitor that hates losing and does not give away any matches and likes to fight to the end. Rafa does struggles some with his mental game but still really enjoys playing tennis. Rafa is a right handed player and his best strokes are his forehand and serve. Rafa's dream college is Pepperdine adn he would like to graduate from Weil playing the best tennis possible. Rafa's favorite player is Juan Martin del Potro. Rafa lives for tennis!

I am ranked 129 in the country and my favorite player is Roger Federer. I like music and my favorite shot is the slice. My goal is to go to college. Favorite basketball team is the Warriors.

Kevin LynchKevin Lynch, 18 (Colorado Springs, CO)

I am taking a gap year between high school and college to improve my game to be able to play high level college tennis. My favorite shot is probably my forehand which I learned from my favorite pro players Charls Irie and Jim Westfall. I am looking forward to finishing up the year with a strong game and no weaknesses to play my best in college.

Evan came to Weil from Vancouver, Canada, in August 2009. Evan's all around game style has currently placed him in the top 65 in Southern California for B14s. One of Evan's favorite shots is the drop shot and he has a one handed backhand that is developing quickly since he's been at Weil. Evan's current goals are to reach top 30 So Cal by June 2010 and finish in the top 10 by June 2011.

I'm right handed and one single handed backhand, my best groundstroke is the forehand. My type of game is aggressive but I've been working and I've improved my defensive game alot. I've also improved my footwork alot and I feel my physical condition and strength are more than good. I've been working hard and improving playing matches and I've been winning good matches against good players. I am also working hard on my mental game and focusing on matches. I've become an agressive and all court player, and during my time in Weil I want to improve my tennis to be top and improve my rankings: So Cal, National and ITF.

Yes, my name is two letters long and has no vowels. It's pronounced "ing" not "nig". It doesn't stand for "not good" but for "nice guy". I'm from Brooklyn, NY and I'm Chinese. I don't have a favorite food because I like eating in general. My favorite player is Gael Monfils and I aspire to play like him. I hope to get into a good D1 or D2 school for college where I can continue playing tennis and pursue my goals to become an engineer.

I am a native of Japan, and I have attended the Weil Tennis Academy since 2007. I have a strong forehand and a big serve. I am a fan of Roger Federer, and I would like to emulate his all around game. My short-term goal is to be ranked in the top 5 in southern california. My long-term dream is to play professional tennis.

Anna Orlik

Anna Orlik, 17, (Minsk, Belarus) Top 600 WTA, Top 20 ITF
Anna is in her 3rd year training at Weil and is off to a great start. Anna won a rare double- double in December 2009: Anna and her partner won the Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl Doubles Championships back to back! Anna will play a bigger professional schedule in 2010 with the goal to improve her ranking several hundred spots by the end of the year. As a junior, Anna also won many more top International titles such as the Eddie Herr Singles Championship, and she reached the Singles Quarterfinals & Doubles Semifinals of the 2009 Junior Australian Open.

Nick PapacNick Papac, 18 (Fresno, CA) Top 5 Nor Cal B18s

Nick is ranked #4 in Nor Cal and 125 Nationally. He plays left handed.and his favorite player is Robert Kendrick. NIck's best shot is his forehand. Nick's dream is to play division 1 college tennis.

Ciro Riccardi, 14 (Los Angeles, CA) Top 20 So Cal Boys 14s
I have been at Weil for about 2 years and I would say that I have improved my game alot. Juan Martin Del Potro is my favorite tennis player right now. Like him, I am an aggressive baseliner that loves using my forehand. Hopefully I get to play against him when I am older.

My name is Ben Roger. I am from the United Kingdom and I am training in my second year at the academy. My current ranking in So Cal is 75 and I am hoping to get inside the top 50 in the next two months. My favorite tennis players are Roger Federer along with Andy Murray. I am right handed and play with a two handed backhand. I have an aggressive game where I try to dominate with my serve and forehand and recently have been trying to improve my net play and footwork.

I was born in Mexico City and started playing tennis at age 9.
I'm right handed and my favorite shot is inside in/out forehand, and my favorite players of all time are Coria and Kuerten.
My dream college to go when I graduate would be Stanford and my long term goals are to be Top 200 ITF and play pro tennis after college.

I am Shogo Shimizu from Ishikawa, Japan. My tennis style is ground stroker. My favorite pro player is Hewitt. I want to go to a Division I College in California. I would like to be Top 40 in So Cal by the end of this year. My favorite color is blue, my favorite food is Japanese food and I like to watch movies.
Kirra SimonsonKirra Simonson, 15 (Ojai, CA) Top 60 So Cal G16s
Hi I'm Kirra, I first started at Weil when I was 9 turning 10, and I have been training here on and off ever since. I am a right-handed player and I have improved both mentally and physically since I first started here. I finished the G14s at #30 in So. Cal, I attended school in New Zealand for a semester and played #2 for the #2 school in New Zealand, I came back home and have a current ranking of #60 in the G16s, and I am now jumping into the G18s. My goals from now until I finish high school is to keep improving my tennis along with my So. Cal and national ranking, work hard in school, and hopefully get in to a top school on the East Coast.

Wan-Yi SweetingWan-Yi Sweeting, 16 (Australia) Top 100 So Cal G16s
Hi, I'm Wan-Yi Sweeting. I am half Chinese and half English. I was born on October 8, 1993, in Hong Kong. I play for Australia in the ITF circuit. It is my ambition to play on the WTA circuit one day. Hopefully I will achieve that when I leave Weil. 

Andrea TabachnikAndrea Tabachnik, 17 (Mexico City, Mexico) Top 350 ITF
Andrea joins Weil for her senior year of high school with plans to play top Div 1 College Tennis. Andrea has been a top Mexican player for the past 4 years and has done very well at the ITF level breaking into the top 300 as a 16 year old. Andrea is a tall right handed player who can stay on the baseline or attack the net. Andrea loves doubles as well and has a great work ethic on court. Andrea will improve her fitness this year and then apply to several top schools for 2010.

Lynda Xepoleas, 17 (Ojai, CA)

My name is Lynda Xepoleas. I am seventeen years old and my current ranking is 15 in the nation for the girls 16's and I am currently ranked 7 for the girls 18's in Socal. I won my first national doubles title in Novemeber 2009 and my favorite professional player would be Fernando Verdasco.

Hi, My name is Solomiya Zinko, I am 15 years old. My favorite player is Juan Martin del Potro. I am right handed and I have a two-handed backhand. By the time I leave the Weil tennis academy I want to take my game to the next level, by improving physically, mentally, tactically, and having more pace on my shots.
Pedro Zerbini (Sao Paulo, Brazil, Junior, UC Berkeley Men's Tennis Team)
Pedro Zerbini, 22, is playing big time college tennis for Cal.  Pedro finished 2009 in the top 50 of NCAA Singles and is currently ranked Top 30 in College tennis.  Pedro will play #1 singles and #1 Doubles for the Bears this year and his goal is to bring a NCAA Team Title to Cal!  The Bears are ranked in the Top 25 and have started the season 7-1.
Kallim Stewart (Ojai, CA, Senior, UCLA Bruins Men's Tennis Team)
Kallim, 22, finished 2005 ranked #1 in Boys 18s in the United States, and played #1 for his Cal team last year before transferring to UCLA for his senior year.Kallim will look to build on that this year as he starts ranked in the Top 50 in College Tennis. 


Kirsten Flower (NCAA Women's Team Champion Goergia Tech, Top 40 Singles College Tennis, SeniorOhio State Buckeyes, Columbus, Ohio)
Kirsten, 22, trained at Weil for 2 plus years and rose to #1 in Girls 14s and Girls 16s in the US while with us. After a stellar 2 years at GA Tech where she helped the Yellow Jackets win a National Title in her freshman year, Kirsten decided to transfer to her father's alma mater Ohio St. Kirsten will play number one for the Buckeyes and will lead the team to a great season we are sure. Kirsten will improve this year and her Yellow Jackets will try to defend their National title later this year.
Ahmed Ismail (Ojai, CA,Junior, UCLA Bruins Men's Tennis Team)

Ahmed Ismail, 21, begins his junior season at UCLA as the Bruins go for another NCAA Team Title. Ahmed was a member of the 2008 Bruin National Championsip Team.

Bozhidar Katsarov (Ojai, CA, Junior, UC Berkeley Men's Tennis Team)

Bozhidar Katsarov, 21, begins his Junior season with a much improved Cal team and expects to play top 4 in singles and #2 doubles for the Bears. Bo graduated from Weil and achieved the #1 USA Boys 16s ranking while attending the academy. Bo’s father, Ognyan Katsarov, is a Head Coach at Weil. Bo is majoring in Business Administration with a focus in Finance at the prestigious Walter A. Haas School of Business at Cal. The Katsarov’s moved to Weil from Bulgaria.
