Seeded second in the draw at the Girls 14s Hard Court Nationals in Atlanta this August, Ashley Dai and Riko Shimizu knew they were not the favorites going into the final as they had defaulted their semifinal doubles at the National Clays a month earlier. Add to that they were facing the Clay Court Doubles Champions Breaunna Addison and Chanelle Nguyen and things didn't look that favorable.

After losing the first set 6-3, they found themselves in a tiebreaker in the second set to stay alive in the match and pulled it out 8-6. The third set started well and the pair rode the wave to the championship as they took the third set decisively 6-3 and were crowned US Hard Court Doubles Champions! Both girls added another Gold Ball to their collection which will certainly grow in the near future.

The Doubles title in Atlanta capped off a great summer for both girls as Riko Shimizu won the So California Girls 14s Singles Championships in June, reached the singles Semifinals at the US G14s National Clay Courts in July, and the Doubles Semifinals, and then reached the Round of 16 in Singles and won the Doubles at the Hard Courts --- what a nice summer for the girl that started 2008 ranked below 50 in the US!

Ashley Dai also had a stellar summer with a Quarterfinals finish in the So California Sectionals G16s Singles, Round of 16 in Singles at G14s Clay Courts and Semifinals of Doubles. And at Girls 14s Hard Courts Ashley reached the Singles Quarterfinals and won the Doubles Title.

Due to her fabulous 2008 performances, Ashley has been chosen to represent the United States at the Bonne Bell Maureen Connolly Brinkley Cup in Australia in November. This is a deserved honor for the 14 year old and we are all very proud of her!
